Among his most musically formative experiences were his encounters with Svjatoslav Richter, who regularly invited him to his festivals in Russia and France. He has won prizes at important competitions such as the International Robert Schumann Competition (1989) and the Concours Musical \"Reine Elisabeth\" in Brussels (1991).\r\nHis musical and programmatic choices are often unusual. Alexander Melnikov began to explore historical performance practice at a very early age. He received important impulses from Andreas Staier and Alexei Lubimov, with whom he has collaborated on numerous projects. He regularly appears on stage with renowned early music ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto K\u00f6ln, the Akademie f\u00fcr Alte Musik Berlin or the Orchestre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es.\r\n\r\nAmong the orchestras with which Alexander Melnikov has appeared as soloist are the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Philadelphia Orchestra, NDR Sinfonieorchester, HR-Sinfonieorchester and Russian National Orchestra, as well as the Munich Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic and NHK Symphony. He has worked with conductors such as Mikhail Pletnev, Teodor Currentzis, Charles Dutoit, Paavo J\u00e4rvi, Philippe Herreweghe, Thomas Dausgaard and Valery Gergiev.\r\n\r\nWith Andreas Staier, Alexander Melnikov devised a programme that allows excerpts from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier (Andreas Staier - harpsichord) to correspond with the 24 Preludes and Fugues by Shostakovich (Alexander Melnikov - piano) in a musical conversation. Together they have also recorded a pure Schubert programme for four hands and played it in concert. An intensive cultivation of chamber music with other partners such as the cellists Alexander Rudin and Jean-Guihen Queyras as well as the baritone Georg Nigl is an indispensable part of Alexander Melnikov's work.\r\n\r\nChamber music concerts with his long-standing duo partner Isabelle Faust are also extremely important to him. Their joint recording of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas on the harmonia mundi label, which won the Gramophone Award, the ECHO Klassik 2010 and was nominated for a Grammy, has become a reference recording. In September 2015, her recording of the Brahms sonatas for violin and piano was released.\r\n\r\nShostakovich's Preludes and Fugues op. 87, also released by him on the harmonia mundi label, were awarded the BBC Music Magazine Award 2011, the \"Choc de classica\" 2010 and the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics, among others. In 2011, BBC Music Magazine named this CD as one of the 50 most important recordings of all time. He has also recorded works by Brahms, Rachmaninov and Scriabin. Together with Isabelle Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Pablo Heras-Casado and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Alexander Melnikov recorded a Schumann trilogy - with the concertos and piano trios. In August 2015, the second CD with the Piano Concerto and the Second Piano Trio was released. His next CD with works by Prokofiev will be released in November 2016.\r\n\r\nAlso in the 2016\/17 season, Alexander Melnikov presents the project \"The Man with the Many Pianos\". This programme is played on three instruments, each reflecting the style of its time. In addition to concerts with the Orchestre National de Belgique, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Musica Aeterna and the Orquestra Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo, he continues his collaboration with ensembles such as Camerata Salzburg, Seattle Symphony Orchestra and as Artistic Partner with Tapiola Sinfonietta. Other highlights of the season include a residency at the Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, as well as recitals at London's Wigmore Hall, Cit\u00e9 de la Musique Paris, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ Amsterdam, de Singel Antwerp and Palau de la M\u00fasica Catalana Barcelona.","website":"","colorized-image":2700,"interview":null,"veranstaltungen":[2963,2964,2965]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/knstler\/2835","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/knstler"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/knstler"}],"acf:post":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/veranstaltung\/2965"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/veranstaltung\/2964"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/veranstaltung\/2963"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/2701"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conspiritoleipzig.de\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2835"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
