The Respiro Quartet was formed in 2018 by students from the Korea National University of Arts in South Korea. The ensemble name comes directly from the Spanish word “respiro,” which means “breathing, relaxation, tranquility, and security,” which the quartet aims to convey to the audience through its music.
The ensemble was very intensively supported by Young-uk Kim (Novus Quartet). The four musicians* take great pleasure in making music together and exploring the incredibly rich repertoire for this instrumentation. The Respiro Quartet has received numerous opportunities to perform not only in South Korea but also on international stages.
In the summer of 2019, the quartet was selected as a Young Artist by South Korea’s Kumho Cultural Foundation. Thanks to this sponsorship, the Respiro Quartet got its first own concert. After that, the foursome was invited to perform at the Cultural Institute in Brasil and to play together with the Novus Quartet (South Korea) at the Music in Pyeong Chang International Chamber Music Festival. Since 2021, when three of the quartet members came to Germany, violist Hyunmin Oh has been playing with them. In this new line-up, the Respiro Quartet will continue to develop and perfect its skills in the chamber music class of Prof. Frank Reinecke (Vogler Quartet) and Florian Schötz (Goldmund Quartet) at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “,Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig starting in the winter semester 2022/2023.
