Con spirito stages the harp in the Bach Summer Hall and explores the question: “Who actually influences whom?”. On the occasion of Con spirito, the Grieg Begegnungsstätte delivers what it promises: encounters with people in a thought-provoking interplay. Across temporal and geographical boundaries. The evening will focus on Gabriel Fauré as a composer and teacher, including Maurice Ravel, Nadia and Lili Boulanger and Charles Koechlin - whose works are a special discovery. K8 - Finale: Ce qu’il faudrait encore entendre…
What else there is to hear... is the title of our chamber music finale, which looks a little further afield to France with César Franck's brilliant piano quintet and the discovery of delicacy in Gabriel Pierné's “Voyage au pays du Tendre” for flute, string trio and harp. And of course, this episode is about our support for young musicians - our scholarship program - because the Con spirito Finale traditionally takes place at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Performing Arts.

Concert 2 - Richard Wagner
The antipode to the Brahms line is epitomised by Richard Wagner, who was born in Leipzig. With his innovative leitmotif technique, his enthusiasm for Germanic myths and his highly emotional musical language, he inspired Friedrich Nietzsche, Engelbert Humperdinck, Anton Bruckner and Franz Liszt, among others - listen to the 2nd concert and find out more in our programme podcast.

Concert 4 - Con spirito Chamber Orchestra
For the first time, all Con spirito artists will form a festival chamber orchestra! Everyone will perform as a soloist and as an orchestral musician. Musically, Johann Sebastian Bach naturally takes centre stage, but exciting ramifications lead all the way to the first organist and Gade pupil Elfriede André. Our podcast will get you in the mood.

Concerto 5 - Mendelssohn and Gade
Niels Wilhelm Gade came to Leipzig to study with Mendelssohn Bartholdy and later established the Royal Danish Conservatory in Copenhagen, modelled on the one here. His pupils included Carl Nielsen. More about the connection from Leipzig to the north erfahren You in our Programm-Podcast.
