Bennet Ortmann

Bennet Ortmann received his first viola lessons at the age of 7 and began his instrumental studies at the age of 11 as a junior student at the Schloss Belvedere Music High School in Weimar. From 2010 to 2013 he played in the string quartet of the music high school, led by Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig. The ensemble won the first prize at Jugend musiziert national competition with a special prize for the best interpretation of a classical work in 2011.

From 2013 to 2016, he continued his musical education at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London with Prof. Boris Kucharsky. Bennet Ortmann completed masterclasses with teachers such as Lawrence Power, Atar Arad, Nils Mönkemeyer, Barbara Westphal and Tabea Zimmermann. In 2016 he began his bachelor’s degree at the Lübeck University of Music in the class of Prof. Barbara Westphal. In 2018 he made his debut with Bartok’s Viola Concerto and the Kammerphilharmonie Lübeck and played as an academist in the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in the 2019/20 season.

After completing his bachelor’s degree, he began his master’s degree with Prof. Pauline Sachse in Lübeck in 2021 and is solo violist at the opera in Lübeck.
