Jona Schibilsky

Jona Schibilsky comes from a family of musicians in Berlin and performs throughout Europe as a concertmaster, chamber musician and soloist. In September 2025, she was appointed first concertmaster at the Royal Opera House in Madrid (Teatro Real, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid). She gained orchestral experience from 2022 to 2024 at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and as concertmaster of the Eroica Berlin Chamber Orchestra and the German String Philharmonic. The violinist has received numerous awards for her solo and chamber music performances, most recently at the 2024 Mendelssohn Competition as first violinist of the Sapphō Quartet, which she founded with her sister. She is a member of the Duo Zweigeist, which was formed in 2022 when it was accepted into the concert promotion programme of the German Music Competition.

She receives invitations to renowned festivals throughout Europe, has shared the stage with Ilya Gringolts, Jens-Peter Maintz and Gregor Sigl, among others, and occasionally performs as a violist. Schibilsky’s musical training began at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School in Berlin, where she was taught by Michael Erxleben. Jona completed her bachelor’s degree at the Berlin University of the Arts with Nora Chastain and was mentored in chamber music by members of the Artemis Quartet. As part of the Erasmus programme, she was also a student at the Royal College of Music in London in 2021. She is now studying for her master’s degree with Tobias Feldmann at the HMT Leipzig. She is also studying literature and art history at Humboldt University in Berlin. She is a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin association. Jona Schibilsky plays a privately donated violin by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume from 1830.
