Andreas Lehnert was born in Augsburg and received his first musical training on the clarinet and contrabass. He later added piano and organ. After studying at the conservatories in Stuttgart (with Prof. Ulf Rodenhäuser) and Detmold (with Prof. Hans Dietrich Klaus), he was principal clarinettist at the Hessian State Theater Darmstadt from 1993-94. He has been principal clarinettist with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig since 1995.
Andreas Lehnert has performed as a soloist with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, among others. Andreas Lehnert is a member of the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet and co-founder of the armonia ensemble.
He has made numerous recordings for MDR, Deutschlandradio Berlin, RBB, NDR and SWR and for the labels Berlin Classics, Hänssler, Genuin and Querstand. Andreas Lehnert has taught as a lecturer at the “Villa Musica” Foundation and has held teaching positions at the Leipzig University of Music and at the TU Brandenburg in Cottbus. He is currently a mentor for clarinet at the Mendelssohn Orchestra Academy of the Gewandhaus Orchestra.
