Hans-Jürgen Schatz

Hans-Jürgen Schatz made his debut with the leading role in the feature film “Flamme empor”. Since then, he has appeared in numerous theater productions as well as cinema and television films, including “Heimat”, “Der Fahnder” and “Salto Postale”. He gained an excellent reputation as a reciter with texts by Erich Kästner, Jean Paul and Thomas Mann.

He often works in the field of classical music, which has brought him together with the piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque, the harpsichordist Hedwig Bilgram, the singers Claudia Barainsky, Michaela Kaune, Doris Soffel, Daniel Behle, Thilo Dahlmann, Markus Eiche, Dietrich Henschel, Andreas Schmidt, Peter Schreier and Roman Trekel as well as the conductors Andrey Boreyko, Sylvain Cambreling, Geoffrey Paterson, Sir Jeffrey Tate and Christian Thielemann. His interpretation of L.F. Baum’s “Der Zauberer von Oos” was awarded the “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik” and his recording of the musical tale “Paddington Bear’s First Concert” (with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra) was awarded the “ECHO Klassik” German Record Award.

Hans-Jürgen Schatz was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his wide-ranging social commitment.
