Sibylle Mahni

Born in:

Staffanstorp Malmöhus

Current centre of life:

Berlin

Second, third or even fourth instrument:

Piano (formerly trumpet)

My career aspirations as a child:

Musician – Pianist

This was the profession my parents envisioned for me:

Musician

Works or concert experiences that shaped me:

Grieg Piano Concerto, Mahler Kindertotenlieder, Brahms Requiem.

I would like a work for my instrument by this composer (and why?):

Fortunately Mozart wrote 4 horn concertos!!! It would be great if there was a chamber work like Mendelssohn’s String Octet with horn. I love this piece!

I would get up in the middle of the night for that:

My family

Special / curious own concert experience:

Thunderstorm during a concert at the Heimbach water power station on the occasion of the chamber music festival “Spannungen”.

My most valuable tip for the next generation of musicians:

Humility before the composer and the work must always come before one’s own ego! And don’t forget that we have one of the most beautiful professions imaginable!!! It’s about setting emotions to music, about telling something….

That's what I wish for the future of the classical music scene:

That there is always room for the special, the depth of musical emotionality and that it is not always more about sensation on stage.

My next project:

CD recording of the 4 Mozart Horn Concertos with the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra and CD recording of a duo CD with the pianist Hansjacob Staemmler.

That's what I associate with Leipzig as a city of music:

Bach!
