Benjamin Wand first began learning to play the violoncello before switching to the double bass at the age of 15. In addition to his classical studies in Leipzig, Berlin and Mannheim, he was also involved in the Radio Music School Orchestra (RMO) and the Villa Musica Chamber Music Foundation.
After various orchestral internships (MDR, Deutsche Oper Berlin, DSO), he began to focus increasingly on chamber music activities (Deep Strings Trio, Die Trionauten, Ben Hadschi Quintett). He has been a bass player in the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig and Mendel’s Salon for many years.
He also studied historical bass instruments and singing with Marek Rzepka. His musical focus is currently on historical performance practice with ensembles such as the Gaechinger Cantorey, Collegium Musicum ’23, Collegium 1704 and many others.
